So I did this thing… I cut bangs myself! And I absolutely love the result. I felt like I had the same hairstyle forever. My hair was always long, and yes sometimes I got some face framing layers. But, recently, I was ready for a change.
Bangs or a fringe (however you wish to call it) look so flattering, in my opinion. I loved the bangs on Alexis Bledel as Rory in Gilmore Girls. It makes her look young and feminine. I also loved Pamela Anderson’s bangs and up do’s. She is an icon. Pamela Anderson’s fringe is glamorous and fun. Also, I love the fringe on Dakota Johnson. She looks classy and girly. After all these inspiring ladies and meticulously researching their bangs, I was ready. I decided to get bangs.
Of course, bangs or fringe grow so quickly that it would be easy to grow out. And I decided it would be fun and exciting to change up my look a bit.
The most important reason why I did not go to a hair salon is because I was not sure what bangs I would like on my own face. I figured the hairdresser would advice me something, but I would not be able to go back. Relying on another person’s opinion about my appearance is something I find difficult. I like my own style and not necessarily what is in fashion.
Whereas, if I cut my bangs or fringe myself I could start off wispy and long and work my way to the more severe bangs. Also, I just trust my own skills and capabilities. Cutting bangs is no rocket science and I am ready to learn.

Before I cut my bangs, I watched some tutorials and I found the following method to be easiest with the best result.
Twist. Cut horizontally. Cut vertically. Cut diagonally.
I grabbed the front piece of my hair in a triangle shape. I twisted the lock of hair a few times and cut off the hair that was below my nose while I kept pressure on the twisted lock of front hair. Then the length was a little long and I cut vertically with my scissors in my bangs. This creates a more wispy effect to the bangs for soft ends. I loved it! To finish off my new bangs I took some face framing pieces en cut those off in an angle pushing down from my cheek bone to my jaw. And voila! Perfect fringe. I used this hairdressing scissors from Amazon: https://amzn.to/3XMRsxn .
So, what do you think of my new look? Do the bangs suit me?
Xoxo Brenda
