Gucci, Gucci, Gucci… Can we ever get enough? This Italian fashion house has been in and out of the spot light, but personally I have always enjoyed their designs. Gucci is over the top, but they know how to keep it classy when they want to ;). I think some of the shoulder bags are timeless and feminine. Lady Diana and Jackie Kennedy had been seen with Gucci bags, and to me: those ladies have lovely style. And me, I just love to indulge in Italian design every once in a while.
More recent celebrities that wear the Gucci Dionysus bag are Meghan Markle, Margot Robbie, Salma Hayek and Dakota Johnson. Even if you are not a particular fan of any of these women, I think we can all agree that they are known as well dressed. Especially Meghan Markle is quite the fashion icon since she stepped in the spotlight. So when I was looking for my first designer bag that my husband would gift me, I knew quickly what I had set my eyes on. I love the understated design of the Gucci Dionysus. There is no visible logo or brand on the bag. The Dionysus clasp is what makes this bag recognisable, but to me the clasp is a piece of art. The clasp is in the shape of a hoof made out of a snake. It is a lot. It is intriguing. It is not for the faint of heart. That is what makes it Gucci. It gives a super glamorous feel to the bag, especially with the crystals. I love and chose this bag because you can easily use it to dress up or down. Although I chose a neutral color, the bag is an eye-catcher.
After three years of using this bag, I can say that I don’t think that Gucci handbags are the best quality as some other luxury brands. There are some signs of wear in my bag, but I am glad that the leather is quite scratch proof, the hardware did not tarnish and the structure is still intact. I do think the quality of the leather under the clasp should be higher, same with the edges on the bag. The corners are definitely starting to wear off and the leather around the clasp is wrinkled. These signs of wear are minor of course, but considering my other designer bags are still in pristine condition, these signs of wear are something to consider.
I love to pair this handbag with a variety of different outfits. The classic shape and grey color lean itself perfectly for different occasions. As a small detail I love to pair this handbag with sunglasses I have from Gucci. I think pairing your accessoires from the same brand is a nice touch in an outfit to look even more put together.
The Gucci Dionysus is a lovely bag, but with the current price increases I think there are more durable designer bags out there for a lower price. My Louis Vuitton Alma BB and Louis Vuitton Cluny are definitely of better quality so far. But this Gucci Dionysus handbag will hold a special place in my heart forever. And I will keep on loving Gucci forever!
As with any handbag, if you love the design you need it! And I still love this design to bits. Italy has many charms.
