Is the Chanel classic flap 2.55 Reissue worth the money?

Of all the bags in the world, Chanel must be my absolute favorite. The classic silhouette, the iconic CC logo, a true cult classic of our lifetime and of the generation before us. So when the day finally came in which I got to choose my favorite purse in the Chanel Boutique in Venice my dreams came true.

The sales assistant in the Venice store was so lovely. She really took her time to show us multiple items and gave us enough space so we could browse by ourselves. I also wanted some ballet flats and I chose light pink slingbacks with the classic black nose. She also showed us some jewellery and brooches before we started to look at a handbag. We got offered champagne, drinks and chocolates.

When we went back to the counter of the store to look at the handbags, the sales assistant showed me all the models she thought I would like and their sizes. She showed me the Chanel classic flap bag first, with gold hardware. Very pretty, and very recognisable as Chanel. I actually was looking for something a little more understated, but very classic.

For my first Chanel bag I actually already knew I wanted the 2.55 reissue in black lamb leather. Black is a staple color in my wardrobe and matches well with my dark hair. Besides that, I believe Chanel’s most Iconic color is black, so it was only fitting to chose something Madam Coco Chanel would approve of herself. The 2.55 Reissue is the shoulder bag that Coco Chanel herself designed and it became available in her boutique on the Champs Elysees in 1955. I always have had a great affinity for anything retro and I love the glamour of the 1950s so my heart was set on this design. The 2.55 Reissue has the original clasp that Coco Chanel designed for her first shoulder bag. The Iconic CC clasp was designer by Karl Lagerfeld in the 1980s and is definitely a classic now, but I feel so special to wear the true and original bag that was designed by Madam Chanel herself. I opted for the silver hardware since I prefer the look of silver over yellow gold. The lamb skin is treated specifically to give the leather a robust and worn look, adding to its retro charm.

So that is the handbag my husband bought for me. The sales assistant made sure our purchases were packaged beautifully and gave me her card so I can contact her next time we are in Venice.

I have had this gorgeous bag for almost 2 years now and the bag still looks brand new after me lovingly using it. This bag is really luxurious and high quality. To be honest I did not even treat the leather yet, because it is not necessary. The chain and hardware is still scratch free and it really looks brand new. I definitely am hooked now on Chanel bags and I cannot wait for the day where I will get to choose more handbags. High on my Wishlist is a pink or nude coloured Chanel classic flap. I really rate my experience & the Chanel classic 2.55 reissue with full points: 5/5.

Since I bought this handbag in September 2020 the price has officially increased with 2000 euros. This bag is a great investment piece, just as the Chanel classic flap.
